Reiter Reunion 2009 – News Release #3

WHEN – July 23 through July 26 2009 (note this is one week later than mentioned in News Release #1)

Fontana Dam, North Carolina 28733
www.fontanavillage.com

THEME – “Smokey Mountain Memories”

RESERVATION PROCEDURE:

Each family must make their own reservations by calling 1-800-849-2258. You can call as early as today if you want.

We have “blocked” 8 2BR cabins (they are called “Laurels”). They are centrally located and close to just about all the amenities. If you want one of these, just mention you are part of the “Reiter Reunion” when you call and they should set you up. They are $119 weeknights and $129 weekend nights. If you are a member of AAA or AARP, be sure to mention that and you will get a discount rate. The cabins are blocked until March 15; however, they are 1st come 1st served – so plan accordingly. If one of the Laurels is not available, there are plenty of other options, including the lodge.

You can check out the “Laurels” and other available accommodation choices by going to
www.fontanavillage.com/accommodations/accommodations.htm

If you need more bedrooms or bathrooms, there are many choices, but non are “blocked”, so you need to make arrangements as early as possible.

When you make reservations, please let us know your cabin # so we can update the website.

Cancellation Policy:

Cancellations outside of 30 days prior to arrival will be charged a $50 fee.

Cancellations within 30 days of the arrival date will forfeit the deposit (1st nights rent). They indicated they would consider special circumstances such as illness or family emergencies on an individual basis.

Reiter Reunion News Release #2

Changed the dates to 23 - 26 Jul in order to get the cabins we want. If you go to the website www.fontanavillage.com and click on accommodations, they are the "Laurel."

In the attachment they are cabins # 745 thru 765. If you could somehow put the attachment on the reunion site, that would be good. All very close together around the trout pond and as close as we can get to the new pool and "Lazy River." They all have fire pits. Only one bath, but if people want to upgrade to 2 baths then can upgrade, just won't be as close to everyone.

Our coordinator is preparing pricing and a contract and we should have reservation instructions out by early next week.

I think we've achieved "critical mass."

Reiter Reunion 2009 – News Release #1

WHEN – July 17, 18, & 19

WHERE – Fontana Village Resort

Fontana Dam, North Carolina 28733

www.fontanavillage.com

THEME – “Smokey Mountain Memories”

This year we depart from our usual “beach/water” venues for the cooler surroundings of the Great Smokey Mountains. There are a variety of accommodations available from campgrounds, to cabins, to a lodge. Don’t be fooled by the term “cabins.” They have phones, TVs, heat/AC, and fully equipped kitchens. There is a variety available such as 2BR, 3BR, and rustic. We’ll attempt to block a group of cabins so everyone can be in a central area.

There are too many activities available to discuss here, but we anticipate such things as a family softball game, campfires, hikes, nature tours, mountain biking, boating, Frisbee golf, swimming, dam tours, and maybe even square dancing.

Soon, we will be putting out guidance on how to make reservations; in the meantime, check out the website for prices and amenities to familiarize yourself with possible choices.

Who's Coming to RR09

Here's my list of who's coming right now.

Take 2

Well so much for the idea of an urban, baseball focused, park your car and leave it reunion...

All 3 of the responses I got were very politely ... NO to this idea.

The Unicoi State Park has been the alternate suggestion. I am fine with that, but nothing will be done on Plan B until May due to a ridiculous schedule for the rest of April. Also no reservations are taken at State Parks until 11 months before, so July/Aug would be the earliest we could make any reservations.

I would like to begin getting an idea of which dates will work. For school kids the summer is basically down to the months of June and July now, so I will only suggest dates during those months. I will only list the Saturday date, knowing the festivities will be Wed/Thurs - Sun.

Possible dates (excluding July 4): June 6, 13, 20, 27, July 11, 18, 25. Please vote in the polls to the left to help select a date.

I would also like to get a list of who will be coming.

2009 Reiter Reunion Planning Update

Sonya and I have been working on the 2009 Reiter Family Reunion.

We want to do the reunion as close as possible to Dalton, and since I don't know how excitng it would be to have daily tours of the carpet mill... be still my heart... we have focused our efforts on Chattanooga.

Downtown Chattanooga is a really neat small, urban area. I'm adding some links for those who've never been to Chatta-Vegas.

Since Grandpa succeeded in passing on his love of baseball to most of us, we thought it would be neat to have the "big event" of the reunion be Reiter Reunion night at the Chattanooga Lookouts baseball game! All the hotels listed below are less than a block from the stadium. There is a baseball & picnic option, but it is a little pricy ($16.50/ each). I am in discussion with the Lookouts to find out when they have a home series in mid - late July of 2009. Also what kind of deal we could get on the picnic.

We are also looking at t-shirts proclaiming the exciting weekend.

The hotels listed range from $150 - $230 (2 BR Suite).

All the attractions listed are in easy walking distance.

Serious discussions with hotels probably will not begin until May, since I am in a play... yes the engineer geek is now in ... Theater (dramatic pause here). OK quit laughing.. I am playing Coach Bolten in Disney's High School Musical On Stage at the Collonade Theater in Ringgold. Don't panic it is a non singing part. The performances will be on April 18, 19, 25, 26 so we'll be pretty busy until then with practice on top of: all 3 Hicklettes playing ball, leading Cub Scouts, teaching Sunday School, coordinating Pioneer Club, Women's Retreat, Sonya going on a mission trip for a week to Mexico, and expanded duties at work.

Here are some links, please either let me know via comments or email

daltonjacket@gmail.com

with your thoughts on these ideas. Also if there is anyone who feels led to subsidize part of the reunion to reduce the overall costs, please let me know.
